Join us for the inaugural year of the ABC share, a community endeavor where members and growers work together to create a sustainable and vibrant local food system.
What is the ABC share?
The ABC share is inspired by the CSA model that has been part of local food economies for almost half a century, but it reorients to involve our members in connecting to the land and the food that nourishes them.
The share includes a Pick Your Own farmshare alongside Community Nourishment Events, where we gather to enjoy meals made with ingredients from our local and regional foodshed. Members also receive a 10% discount off of all Emergence Gardens goods and services.
How does it work?
In the same way that traditional CSAs help growers with off-season start-up costs, members sign up prior to the growing season and join the community. This initial currency is less than traditional models, but still enough to help purchase seeds, supplies and other needs.
Once you are an ABC share member, you are invited to participate in the joys of the community. You can choose to engage in any of the activities and offerings that suit your needs and abilities.
How much is it?
You can join the community for $123 anytime before March 1, 2025.
Once you have joined you will be invited to our seasonal pop-up Community Nourishment Events at the gardenstead in South Dartmouth, featuring opportunities such as weekend pastries at the farmshed, song & soup around the campfire, tea in the greenhouse and sandwiches on fresh sourdough bread. All of the nourishment events and accompanying treats are included in membership.
Additionally you will have the option to Pick Your Own farmshare at the farmland in North Dartmouth, located behind Helfand Community Garden for $10 per share. We plan to have a total of 12 PYO opportunities from June-October, scheduled every other week with some exceptions for holidays and environmental pressures. You’ll receive an email listing the share contents for the week and you can decide whether you would like to come to the farm and PYO. You will also receive instruction and learn about growing your own food as you pick! As with all farmshares, the risk and reward is shared by both grower and member.
If you can’t or would prefer not to PYO, members can take 10% off of all products at the farmstand, including garden starts and cut flowers as well as any of my service offerings.
I have a big family, how big is the PYO share?
The PYO share is designed for 1-2 people. As a member you can pick up to 3 shares per visit at the $10 exchange, and can vary this throughout the season as needed.
Can I use SNAP benefits?
Yes! Members can pay for any SNAP-eligible items like plants, produce, seeds, eggs and farmshares with SNAP benefits. You will still need to join the membership with the exchange of $123 in currency or a work-trade agreement.
What are your growing methods?
We focus on building a relationship with the land and her inhabitants. This includes planting cover crop, forage and pollinator favorites. It also includes seasonal and regular communication with the land, including gratitude and asking permission. When amending the soil we use only products allowed for organic production and follow the same guidelines for seeds and other products. We do not use any heavy equipment and plant every seed by hand.
This sounds a little weird, why don’t you do a regular CSA?
There are many wonderful CSAs in our area. This model works great for some farmers and community members! The ABC model seeks to address not only access to fresh, local, healthy food but also to bring our community closer to each other as well as the land and plant life that make local food possible.
How do I sign up?
To sign up please fill out our membership form, place it in an envelope and either mail it to the address on the form or drop it at the farmstand with a check for your contribution to our seasonal start up costs.
Thank you for building a beautiful reality with me!
"Being a part of Brooke's Earth Community has been an awesome experience for me so far - I couldn't be happier that I met Brooke and not long after had this opportunity pop up! I have often wished over the years I had someone to help me with all of my gardening questions. Having grandparents and parents who grew up on farms, I feel it is in my blood to garden and have always had such a strong innate desire to do so. Unfortunately, with 3 little ones I haven't had as much time to dedicate to learning all there is to know. I have done my best over the past few years managing my little garden plots knowing they could be so much better but feeling frustrated at times and overwhelmed with the research needed to get things how I wanted them. Enter Brooke! She is a fountain of knowledge with a long history of farming/gardening and is such a kind soul. I have not even planted a seed yet but with 5 months of calls under my belt, I already feel more excited and more prepared than I ever have in the past about this year's garden. Brooke has step-by-step walked us through from preparing space, soil testing, garden planning, taking into account individual plant spacing and companion planting, specifics of plant families and timing, seed starting....with so much more to come. Breaking it up into manageable segments throughout the year and being able to go to one source for all questions has been super helpful. With Brooke's help, using all of her valuable posted resources and her thoughtful direct feedback, I've created a great plan for my garden this year and can't wait to start growing, all the while having access to her and the community for troubleshooting along the way. I love the little community that she has created and being able to share and learn with others excited about growing. I'm looking forward to seeing the group expand into the future! Joining this group has been enormously helpful, so fun, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to step up their gardening game!"

I believe the universe provides us with gifts, often subtle. But sometimes we are so busy in our monkey minds that we don’t notice them. Then the universe delivers a gift right at our feet when we most need it. Brooke was that gift for me. I was greeted with a sweet smile and a bottle of water. Brooke talked me through what to expect and took a trauma informed approach. Beautiful music was playing as we settled into the space and Brooke applied essential oils to several chakra points with consent and clear communication. I was given options of how to position my body and given the option to choose crystals to hold during the session. Brooke then, with gentle voice and serene energy taught me the breathing method to be used and we were on our way. The experience was like no other. My body immediately knew what to do and I’m certain that was entirely due to Brooke’s guidance, energy and warm intentions. I felt safe throughout. Brooke’s play list was perfect and spoke directly to what I had been holding onto. I was able to get into my body and release some strongly held stuff that no longer served me. I felt safe to cry and laugh and move my body in whatever way it saw fit. Brooke offered affirmations that furthered my sense of safety. I was gently guided out of the session and encouraged to do what felt right for me. It was a transformative and therapeutic experience that I will never forget. I know I will be seeing Brooke again to help guide me through my healing journey. I thank the universe for this cosmic being.

Trying to find the words to describe my breathwork session with Brooke and the first word that comes to mind is “Phenomenal!”. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it but wow oh wow! I cried in the best way possible. I felt joy. I felt release. My entire body was vibrating and felt total euphoria! Having Brooke there to hold the space and gently walk me through felt so comfortable. I had just met her right before our session and immediately felt at ease. She has such a calm presence. I highly highly recommend this to anyone that feels called to do so. It’s been a week since my session and I feel such clarity. Things have been flowing and I feel like I kinda have my life together for once.

You can reach me at connect@emergencegardens.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
In the Earth membership we cover every detail. Everything is done step by step, and you can ask as many questions as you like, so you can build your garden even if you've never gardened before. You will have access to the materials even after the course so if there are some topics you're not ready for, you don't have to worry about learning everything now.
My breathwork sessions are held using a two-part breath pattern taught by my teacher David Elliot. We work with the breath at a gentle, consistent pace while listening to music. All sessions include introduction, grounding, active breath and integration portions.
It depends on your reasons for joining! If you are hoping to transition your lawn into a garden, the best time to begin the process is in late summer (August/September) for the following spring, but you can begin the curriculum and get real-time gardening help at any time.
My background is agricultural and hands-on. I worked on my first farm in 2008 and have been farming, gardening or both ever since. I learned and encourage others to learn through a balance of instruction, intuition and experimentation. You can read more about my background and mentors in the "About Me" section of my webpage.
