As you work through the Earth & Air curriculum, and have all the benefits of the community, also learn hands-on at the Emergence Farm Project in Dartmouth, MA
See what it's like to run a small farm in rhythm with the Earth's natural cycles and become part of our local farming community
There are some things you can only learn by doing. Having access to an experienced grower to ask questions to throughout the season helps to build your confidence when growing your own garden.
The Earth & Air Immersive Membership is part of what I am calling Agriculture Built in Community, or ABC.
We're all familiar with the CSA model, which stands for Community Supported Agriculture. The CSA model was an innovative way to bring the community into agriculture to share the risks and rewards of farming. But the model has come a long way from its roots, often seen as a produce box for a discount price. Farmers still gain the benefits of income in the lean months of the year, but something of the shared risk and reward has been lost, on both sides.
The ABC model is different. It imagines instead of having two sides of the equation, what if we were all building something new together. Instead of supporting agriculture, the ABC model looks to the community to build a system that works for everyone.
The Earth & Air Immersive is only the first trial in this initiative, and I hope to be inspired by those who gravitate towards it as we build together what this endeavor will look like, building something that truly can transform our community and the way we live our lives.
All members of the Earth & Air community, whether full exchange, scholarship, growth or immersive receive the same benefits. Access to the course library, including "How-to Build a Garden Step-by-Step", "Breathwork for Embodiment" as well as any future courses. Become part of our community forum and attend our monthly Q&A calls.
The Earth & Air Immersive option is for those local to the Southcoast region of Massachusetts, and involves hands-on time at the farm, located at former Helfand Farm on Chase Road.
Those who hear the call of the immersive option on the farm will tend the plants throughout the season alongside myself, for 4 hours every week, for the 26 weeks of the main growing season, April through September. You can choose to do all 4 hours at once, or break it up into 2 hour blocks.
If you are a teacher, or have another reason you'd prefer to work Summer only, you can choose to work 8 hours per week for the 13 weeks from June through August.
Timing is flexible and we can do our best to work something out that works with your schedule. I hope that Immersive members schedules will match up so that we can also form community while learning!
If you have children but no childcare options, please don't let that deter you from reaching out. Depending on the age and interest of your little ones there are many ways for them to be alongside you as you learn together about growing food, different insects and pollinators, soil and other farm things.
The Earth & Air Immersive option is an opportunity to learn while doing. Because I see the value in the work you will do while learning, your time on the farm will be your exchange for membership, there is no additional cost.
Immersive members should be prepared to come to the farm in all weather conditions and have appropriate clothing, footwear, an open mind and a willingness to learn. For consistency, members are expected to commit to their weekly hours, and in the event they need to miss a day will schedule make up hours within a reasonable time frame.
There are a total of 6 available spots for the Earth & Air Immersive membership per season and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
